6.30-7.30 pm

Professor Tan Arulampalam, Consultant Surgeon, Anglia Ruskin University; President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland

Wellbeing and mental health have come to the fore in recent years. The Covid-19 pandemic has made us more self aware and we are seeing the dangers of toxic workplaces in healthcare. The study of burnout, human factors and mitigating strategies has been accelerated due to the crisis we see in healthcare. The impact of a brutal medical career on the physician and understanding the role of resilience, communication, civility and psychological safety are key to navigating a good meaningful life and doing the best for our patients.

The impact of burnout and physician health on patient safety is as important and effective leadership with organisational and system change is an urgent need.

This talk addresses all these areas and explores ways we can look after ourselves, impact on our organisations and gives some tools for effective change.
