The Section of Odontology within the Manchester Medical Society was formed in 1950 when the Manchester Odontological Society became incorporated into the Society.
The Section runs four meetings per year. Two afternoon symposia, one in autumn and one in the spring, the Alan Hilton Prize evening held in January which gives junior members of staff the opportunity of presenting papers in an environment that is familiar and a Guest lecture in April. Members of the Section are also entitled to attend meetings of all other Sections of the Society.
The venue for the meetings is the MANDEC (Manchester Dental Education Centre) and meetings offer an excellent forum for different branches of the profession to meet and discuss subjects of mutual interest and are also a source of high quality CPD.
Benefits of membership
Membership of the Society confers the following benefits:
•An opportunity to meet and network with colleagues across the North West Region and beyond.
•Discounted rates for meetings.
•Quality local and national speakers and local CME.
•(Trainees only) Eligibility to enter for the annual Alan Hilton Prize
•Access to a secure area of the website to view presentations of missed meetings and presentations from other sections.
•Eligibility for a University of Manchester Library card (currently the Society does not have access to library literature search facilities).
As far as possible the Section Council attempts to arrange stimulating and interesting meetings covering all aspects of odontology. Inevitably the Section Council cannot be aware of all current topics that may be of interest to members and the names of potential speakers. If any Society members have any suggestions for future meetings or the contact details of potential speakers they are encouraged to contact the Section or Society Secretariat at email@example.com
