Paediatrics in the community and Community Paediatrics

Professor Doug Simkiss, Honorary Associate Clinical Professor in Child Health, University of Warwick and an Honorary Consultant Paediatrician, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Chair of BACCH (British Association for Community Child Health)

Learning objectives:

  • To explain community paediatrics (as part of community child health) to those who are unfamiliar with the phrase. Community paediatrics is a group of clinical disciplines, but it is also a philosophy of care 
  • To explain paediatrics in the community to those who are unfamiliar with this term. For me, this is about general paediatrics in Neighbourhood based integrated team.
  • To describe some of the other issues that a key to making this change to the way we practice paediatrics and child health. These include a focus on the social determinants of child health, integrated care pathways, population health management and system leadership skills.

Implementation of National Bundle of Care for Children and Young People with Asthma in Greater Manchester

Dr Easwari Kothandaraman, Consultant in General Paediatrics, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital; CYP Asthma Clinical Lead, Greater Manchester & Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Network

Synopsis:

This talk will cover different domains of National Asthma Care Bundle , what are the key deliverables , what measures are being taken to implement deliverables in Greater Manchester and what can all of us do in ensuring we meet the key recommendations.

Paediatric trainee perception of the future of community paediatrics

Dr Naomi Preston, ST8 Community Child Health GRID Trainee, North West Deanery and Chief Medical Registrar, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital; North West Regional representative for BACCH

Learning objectives:

  • To give an overview of how the change in RCPCH curriculum to progress plus will affect training within community paediatrics
  • To highlight views taken from a wide variety of trainees specialising in community paediatrics
  • To discuss how the service may evolve over the next few years and looking further into the future.

An Integrated paediatric service covering acute and community paediatrics- Stockport’s Model

Dr Alison Jobling, Consultant Paediatrician and Associate Medical Director for the division of Women and Children at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust

Synopis:

The talk will cover the set up of our service in Stockport and will provide an overview of the history of the service as well as a description of the way it works,. I will also talk about the advantages and disadvantages to patients and the effects on health inequality as well as the advantages and disadvantages to us as a service. I will be able to share some information and data around waiting times and efficiencies of the model.
